Medical Disclaimer

CarePath is a documentation tool, not a healthcare provider. It does not practise medicine, diagnose, triage, prescribe, calculate doses or check interactions, and it never replaces a clinician's own judgment or instructions.

1. 01CarePath is not a healthcare provider

   Artemius Labs LLC is a software company. CarePath is a documentation tool that reformats instructions a clinician has already written into an illustrated page a patient can read. That is the whole of what it does.

   Artemius Labs LLC does not practise medicine, nursing, pharmacy or any other regulated health profession. It operates no clinic, employs no treating clinicians, and has no clinician–patient relationship with anyone who receives a comic. Using CarePath creates no such relationship, and nothing produced by it is medical advice from us.

   The medical advice in a comic is your advice. We supply the page it is printed on.

2. 02What CarePath does not do

   CarePath performs no clinical function of any kind. Specifically, it does not and is not designed to:

   • diagnose a condition, suggest a differential, or interpret symptoms, images or results;
   • triage, risk-score, screen or monitor a patient;
   • prescribe, recommend, select or substitute a medication or treatment;
   • calculate, check or adjust a dose, rate, taper or schedule;
   • check drug, allergy, condition or device interactions or contraindications;
   • verify that your instructions are correct, complete, current, safe or appropriate for the patient in front of you;
   • detect an error, omission or typo in what you wrote, or flag a missing warning;
   • provide or replace clinical decision support, a clinical guideline, a formulary, or a drug reference.

   It is not a medical device and has not been cleared, approved or certified by the FDA, the MHRA, a Notified Body or any other regulator. It is not an electronic health record, not a system of record, and not a substitute for your EHR, your documentation obligations or your patient-education library.

3. 03If you are a clinician

   You remain the medical author and the responsible professional for every comic your patients see. CarePath copies doses, times and thresholds from your text and traces each panel to the line it came from, but it cannot know your patient, and it does not check your clinical reasoning.

   • Read every panel before you approve. Approval is a clinical act with an audit record against your name.
   • Treat the comic as a supplement to the instructions you give in person and in your own documentation — never as a replacement for either.
   • Never let a comic be the only place a red-flag warning, dose or follow-up appointment appears.
   • Re-review after any edit; editing an approved comic turns its share links off until you approve it again.
   • Do not use CarePath in an emergency, for time-critical instruction, or where a patient cannot safely wait for you to review the draft.

   Output is generated by probabilistic models and varies between runs. Simplification is the point of the product, and simplification necessarily drops nuance — deciding what may safely be dropped for a given patient is a clinical judgment only you can make.

4. 04If you are a patient who received a comic

   If you think you are having a medical emergency, call your local emergency number now — 911 in the United States — or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait, and do not rely on this page or on any comic.

   A CarePath comic is a simplified version of the instructions your own clinician wrote for you. It is not advice from CarePath, and it is not a second opinion. It cannot know everything about your health.

   • Your clinician’s instructions always govern. If the comic and your clinician disagree, follow your clinician and tell them about the difference.
   • Do not start, stop or change a medicine, dose or treatment because of something you read in a comic — ask your clinician or pharmacist first.
   • Do not delay getting care because a comic made something sound routine.
   • If something in the comic is confusing, contradicts what you were told, or looks wrong, contact the clinic that sent it.

   You did not create an account with us and you are not our customer. If you believe a comic you received contains personal information about you that it should not, write to support@carepath.com and we will route it to the clinic that produced it.

5. 05The disclaimer on every comic

   Every comic and every PDF carries a fixed disclaimer stating that it simplifies the clinician’s own instructions, is not independent medical advice, and that the clinician’s instructions govern. It is generated with the artwork and cannot be switched off.

   You must not remove, crop, obscure, overprint, translate away or otherwise defeat that notice, and you must not present a comic as advice issued by CarePath. Doing so is a material breach of the Terms of Service and grounds for immediate suspension.

6. 06No liability for clinical outcomes

   To the fullest extent permitted by law, Artemius Labs LLC accepts no liability for clinical decisions, patient outcomes, personal injury, misdiagnosis, delayed or withheld treatment, medication error, or anything a patient did or did not do after reading a comic.

   Responsibility for the clinical content of a comic rests with the clinician who wrote and approved it, and with the organization that employs them. The full allocation is set out in the Limitation of Liability and Indemnity sections of the Terms of Service, which apply to this page too.

   Nothing on this page excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded where you are.
